So. Here is one of those God awful Joe D’Amato Caribbean movies. Papaya – Love Goddess of the Cannibals was the first in the series, it wasn’t that bad actually, I liked it. But then came the “sequels”. Warm, smelly poop like Porno Holocaust and Erotic Nights of the Living Dead, and the worst of them all, Orgasmo Nero. The plot? A scientist with limited intelligence (played by Richard Harrison of all people) is doing research on a tropical island. His aging, bikini wearing wife (Susan Scott, aka. Nieves Navarro) loves sex, including with herself in the shower. Eventually she meets a native woman, half her age, who’s into voodoo and they become lovers. They giggle mindlessly and sun themselves, and eventually she decides to bring her back to the big city.
That’s it. That’s all. Like Crocodile Dundee, but with boobies. Not a bad plot. But the film sucks! Big time! It’s like staring into a black hole, and apparently this soul-crushing film wasn’t directed by Joe D’Amato at all, but by monkeys… with cameras. Even the intimate sex scenes with Susan Scott (who shows more skin than usual) can’t make up for how boring this film is. It almost gave me nosebleeds. Damn monkeys! An exploitation movie needs more than just nudity, much like a fantasy movie needs more than just cool effects. Or it won’t work. But here it’s like Joe D’Amato said “F**k it, let’s just make a shitty movie.” Imagine Porno Holocaust and remove the few things that are good in it – then you’re left with orgasmo Nero. D’Amato made many good films. Orgasmo Nero, however, is more like a taste of his future career in porn (with films like 120 Days of Anal) and not in a good way. You can almost feel his magic fading away a bit.
