The Rocky III theme song “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor, is one of the most recognizable songs ever, and a couple of years after Rocky III it also became the title and theme song for this underrated Gary Busey movie. Busey plays a Vietnam War veteran who returns home from prison (wrongly imprisoned of course), only to find a drug-running, murderous motorcycle gang, led by a bald William Smith, is stepping all over his hometown. And… when the thugs kill his wife and traumatize his daughter, Busey sets out to smack the living shit out of the bikers.
More intimidating than ever and equipped with a badass, bulletproof pick-up truck sent to him by a drug lord whose life he saved in prison, Busey meets up with his best friend (played by Yaphet Kotto) and together they go about blowing shit up real good and shooting everybody – and even sticking a lit stick of dynamite up a bikers’ ass! This is the kind of “smash and kill” action movie I enjoy wholeheartedly and it’s always nice to see Gary Busey playing a good guy. The film is directed by ‘Vanishing Point’ director Richard Sarafian, who obviously knew what films are about – fun. It’s well done and it has lots of cool ass-kicking and all the goodies you’d expect to see in a macho 80’s movie.
